Anyone else just notice that Violet Hunter made up her mind to accept the governess job on April Fool’s Day?
If Rucastle hadn’t been hurt so badly, one might even think the whole thing was a send-up, daughter, sailor, and all. An elaborate joke, perhaps, but some people will go to any extent to pull someone’s leg.
Did Watson perhaps tag on an ending to make a good joke into a better case? If it was a joke, did Holmes think it funny? And was Violet paid off with that chance in a school, leading to her becoming head?
Or is this *my* April Fool’s joke?
