Here is another Phil Cornell drawing. This a train carriage where I pictured myself countless times. Phil’s attention to detail is just one aspect of why I so enjoy his work.

The artist, Phil Cornell, has a unique way of catching the “imagined” Watson and Holmes and the setting in a way that Paget and others, while excellent, did not. Paget used high realism; Cornell uses more of the images many of us carry in our heads. Here, the realistic 4-seat, first-class train compartment is augmented by the station exterior, the newsboy, and the VERY idealized Watson and Holmes; idealized as they exist in my mind, however. It is a unique talent that gets inside the reader’s mind and reproduces what exists there. I would enjoy seeing all of Cornell’s works.
